The Pearson 31 is a performance-oriented cruising boat with an elliptical rudder, shallow draft wing keel, and a flat underbody. The boat sails very well with its 135% furling genoa and mainsail with two reefs and provides nicely for comfortable cruising life aboard with hot and cold pressure water, propane stove w/oven, deep, well-insulated ice box with a cover that doubles as a nav station, a separate enclosed head and shower, berth for up to 7 with a single and pull out double in the main salon, private stateroom forward and large quarter-berth aft. Engine power is a reliable 20 hp Yanmar diesel, easy starting and fuel efficient.

OTHER EQUIPMENT: The Pearson 31 has a dodger, wheel steering, and a high-end Rat 80 navigation system with color displays for GPS chartplotter, digital depth and fish finder with radar coming. There is a VHF radio, stereo with interior and cockpit speakers, shore power for household current to shipboard outlets and a cell phone charger. The galley is fully outfitted for dining aboard and is complemented with a rail mount barbecue. A dinghy with outboard, ample tool kit with engine spares, fasteners and fuses, flashlight and batteries are standard. The boat has manual and electric bilge pumps. |

SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Safety equipment exceeds federal requirements PDFs are type 1 offshore-rated, extinguishers have metal, not plastic, valves for durability. Coated wire jacklines run along both decks to clip in safety tethers when going forward in rough weather. There are working and storm anchors, ample docklines and fenders and an emergency tiller.

SAILING LIMITS: The P31 may be sailed anywhere in New England. Minimum crew is 2.

MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS: Pearson 31 Gold membership requires ASA bareboat or equivalent certification and training or acceptable experience on similar boats, plus credible chart reading experience needed to navigate safely in Boston harbor and distant waters. Recommended preparation is the Master 30 Bareboat course.

BENEFITS: Gold members have unlimited weekday and weekend use of the boat, a week vacation (additional days $60), advanced weekend reservations plus unlimited use of the Bronze and daysailing fleets and limited (day ahead reservations) of the J29 and Albin fleets. Qualified members may use larger boats 33-39 ft by paying the daily rental difference. Pay $275 to participate in the Club's Wednesday evening racing program. |
