There area 6 boats in the silver fleet, 5 Albin 28's and a Scampi 30. Each is a practical blend of performance and comfort for boats their size. Silver boats are located in Boston, Marblehead and Buzzards Bat and members may depart from any location. Buzzards Bay is popular for vacations since it saves several days departing from and returning boats to Boston. Each boat has a reliable 20 hp Yanmar diesel, marine head with holding tank for cruising in sensitive areas, 135% furling genoa and mainsail with two reefs. Albins have fold-down tables which provide more room inside, modest ice boxes and foot pumps for water storage and showers. Both the Albins and Scampi are proven boats in windy conditions-the Albin fraction al rig offers good balance options and the Scampi gets form stability from its hard chine hull.

OTHER EQUIPMENT: Silver boats have color GPS chart plotters on swing-out arms that make them readable from the cockpit, depth sounders, VHF, stereo with interior and cockpit speakers and cell phone charging outlets. Galleys have efficient Origo two-burner alcohol stoves and the supplies needed to prepare modest meals aboard. Boats at remote locations have dinghies and outboards; these items are available in Boston. All boats have tool kits with engine spares, fasteners and fuses and flashlights with spare batteries. Manual and electric bilge pumps are standard on each boat. |

|
SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Safety equipment exceeds federal requirements PDFs are type 1 offshore-rated, extinguishers have metal, not plastic, valves for durability. Coated wire jacklines run along both decks to clip in safety tethers when going forward in rough weather. Each boat has a working and storm anchor, ample fenders and dock lines.

SAILING LIMITS: Silver boats may be sailed anywhere in New England. Minimum crew is 2.

|
MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS: For daysailing and overnights Silver membership requires ASA Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising or equivalent certification. For vacations, bareboat certification is required. Acceptable experience on similar boats plus chart reading experience needed to navigate safely in Boston harbor and beyond may substitute for certifications. The recommended preparation is the Cruising course or Master 30 course.
