The Club has 6 Boston 27s, boats unique to the Club, custom built for us according to our design and specifications. These boats have the performance of a soling and the comfort of a cruising boat. They are perfect for teaching and comfortable performance day sailing. They seat five, have self bailing cockpits, furling jibs and, with 1200 pounds foam displacement behind the seatbacks and under the floor, are virtually unsinkable.
The International Soling is a 27-foot day sailor that for many years was the official 3-man keelboat of Olympic Games competition. It is an easy boat for novices to sail and, with many sophisticated controls a Soling, in the hands of an experienced skipper can be sailed with fingertip control in 30 knots of breeze-conditions that would have other boats headed for home. All Solings have custom-made lockable doors fore and aft to preserve the integrity of floatation compartments, and half the fleet has been reconditioned to new boat condition. Solings have no running lights and must be returned to moorings by sunset.
Membership covers participation in the Club’s Wednesday evening racing program.
SAILING LIMITS: The Soling may be sailed anywhere in Boston Harbor. A minimum crew of two required at all times (skipper and one crew).
MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS: Soling membership requires BHSC/ASA/USS/RYA Basic Keelboat or equivalent certification or sufficient prior experience on similar boats, plus chart reading experience needed to to navigate safely in Boston Harbor. Recommended preparation is the Day Sailing course.
